Xenyum’s technologies BLC (Backlight Compensation)

The BLC or backlight compensation adjusts the image to compensate for areas that are overpowered by brightness due to excessive light. So if a camera is facing the front door of a shop, the BLC feature is a mandatory option. DSP or Digital Signal Processing is a more advanced level of that process. It alters digitally the pixels involved. This way DSP picks and chooses certain smaller areas instead of the entire picture. BLC adjusts the image as a whole.
In CCTV applications it is common to have a bright light source behind the subject of interest. A person at an ATM or entering through an outside door is a common example. Without BLC compensation, these subjects would appear as dark silhouettes. The aim of backlight compensation technology is to allow the camera to find the best picture conditions and automatically give the necessary compensation of light level, so that users can obtain a good identification of a subject in the foreground when there is a bright light source in the background.
